How clean is Grim North? Do you use clean things?  What do you sterilize? What do you sanitize? Are your chemicals safe? Do you care about the environment?

We take a lot of pride in being as clean and sanitary as possible.  All of our piercing and tattoo surfaces/counters/tables/chairs are wiped down before and after every use with CaviCide™. As well as being effective against bacteria, fungi and viruses, CaviCide™ is an easy to use, non-toxic, biodegradable disinfectant with excellent cleaning properties.  We care a lot about the chemicals that are put into the environment and on/near your body.  We’ve found CaviCide to be the most effective sanitizing cleaner, sacrificing none of its sanitizing integrity while staying safe for you be be around, and safe for the world. For more info about CaviCide please go here.

For the non-tattoo/piercing surface areas such as the waiting area and the bathroom, we use enviornmentally friendly, non-toxic products.  In each area there are sinks with soap dispensers or hand sanitizer.  All of the soap dispenser and sanitizer fluids are Gojo/Purell Green certified Eco solutions.  We do not use perfumes, scent sprays or plug-in scents.  We don’t need them for it to smell nice in here because it’s actually clean and there’s no bad smells to mask.

Daily, we clean all counters, handles/doorknobs, tables and surfaces with an antibacterial spray. We clean the bathroom sink and toilet with the biodegradable green friendly cleaner.  And we sweep and mop the floors.  We use a steam mop to sanitize every floor in our studio, including our work areas, every single day.  Because of the nature of tattooing, we will also occasionally use a bleach water solution on some floors or surfaces that might have become contaminated, but for the most part, a heavy use of CaviCide, thorough cleaning and steam sanitizing keeps our chemical use down to very little.

As for our actual tools and supplies, we use many disposables.  Anything that comes into contact with the procedure is wrapped with a barrier, sanitized, thrown away, or sterilized afterwards.  We use all new piercing and tattoo needles every time. We do not re-use any part of the needle or bar.  All of our razors, elastics, barriers, pens/markers and unused inks or paper towels are always disposed of and never re-used.  James uses mostly disposable tubes and grips.  Stina uses some disposable tubes and some surgical grade stainless steel tubes and grips.  Steph also uses surgical grade stainless steel tools for peircing.  These go through a cleaning process which hand scrubs, untrasonics, hand scrubs, then ultrasonics them a second time.  All before being packaged and sterilized in our Midmark Speedclave autoclave which sterilizes our tools with a steam process.  We will always open our tools from their packaging in front of you.

Our autoclave is certified, and tested monthly by ATS. Not only is our studio compliant with the NH state regulations of autoclave use and testing, but we test more than needed for your safety.  NH requires quarterly autoclave testing, we test and pass monthly.

One of Grim North’s best features is it’s comfortable and clean atmosphere.  We’re all about being clean, but we’re artists, so we can’t help but surround ourselves with beauty.  Not only does Grim North have an interesting decor, but it has a lot of prints, giclee prints, and original paintings on display to keep us all inspired.  You can tell that we love art.  We love making it, we love looking at it and we love buying it to display.  We also have a very open door policy.  At any point, you can stop in and ask to see our sterilization room.  We’ll show you our sterilizer, ultra sonic, sterilizer certification papers and supplies.  We keep it spotless and sanitized at all times, so we have nothing to hide.
